Who is a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive procedure and thus it is ideal for people who would prefer non-surgical anti-aging treatments in specific areas. BOTOX® Cosmetic’s area of treatment generally includes the space between the eyebrows, the forehead and the side of the eye often referred to as “crow’s feet”. It can also be used to treat wrinkles in the upper lip and on the top of the nose area. Furthermore, it can be used to slightly raise the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth. While generally there are no medical contraindications for receiving a BOTOX® Cosmetic injection, you must be 21 years or older. In addition, it is not recommended to take any blood thinning medications prior to the treatment as it can increase possible bruising. It is also highly recommended to speak with a skin care professional prior to getting a treatment.
How many injections does it take to see results?
While the number of injections per session depends on the patient and the recommendation of the skin care professional, patients usually see results after the first session. These results normally last from 3 to 5 months, depending on the severity of the wrinkles. In terms of actual injections during the treatment, the specialist injects 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye, to reduce lines around the side of the eye. For the area surrounding the frown lines, the skin care professional usually administers 5 injections into the forehead, 1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.
