Dr. Furze can temporarily create an improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe crow’s feet associated with increased activity of the muscles around the eye (orbicularis oculi) in adult patients.

How long does BOTOX® last?

BOTOX® can last up to four months for glabellar lines, depending on how much movement the muscle goes through after Dr. Furze injects the BOTOX to the treatment areas. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a blocking agent that inhibits the contraction of the muscle in which it is injected.

Dr. Furze injects BOTOX into the forehead (glabellar) area to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe forehead (glabellar) lines associated with the contraction of the muscles in the forehead area in adult patients.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

One of the main causes of Crow’s feet, the lines that appear around the eyes, and frown lines are repeated muscle contractions from squinting and frowning over time. BOTOX® Cosmetic works by reducing the muscle activity in these areas. BOTOX® Cosmetic inhibits the release of neurotransmitters in the area where it is injected, preventing the muscles from contracting. The relaxing of these muscles smoothes the lines around the brow and eyes.

What kinds of wrinkles are treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Wrinkles that are created by repeated muscle movement are called “dynamic wrinkles”. These types of wrinkles are not as noticeable when the muscles are relaxed and therefore are reduced with the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Such wrinkles normally include frown lines and crow’s feet, the lines around a person’s eyes. In contrast, “static” wrinkles, which are visible even when the face is relaxed are not usually improve with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Who is a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive procedure and thus it is ideal for people who would prefer non-surgical anti-aging treatments in specific areas. BOTOX® Cosmetic’s area of treatment generally includes the space between the eyebrows, the forehead and the side of the eye often referred to as “crow’s feet”. It can also be used to treat wrinkles in the upper lip and on the top of the nose area. Furthermore, it can be used to slightly raise the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth. While generally there are no medical contraindications for receiving a BOTOX® Cosmetic injection, you must be 21 years or older. In addition, it is not recommended to take any blood thinning medications prior to the treatment as it can increase possible bruising. It is also highly recommended to speak with a skin care professional prior to getting a treatment.

How many injections does it take to see results?

While the number of injections per session depends on the patient and the recommendation of the skin care professional, patients usually see results after the first session. These results normally last from 3 to 5 months, depending on the severity of the wrinkles. In terms of actual injections during the treatment, the specialist injects 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye, to reduce lines around the side of the eye. For the area surrounding the frown lines, the skin care professional usually administers 5 injections into the forehead, 1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.

How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments take?

While the treatment is relatively quick, your skin care specialist should take some time to discuss the right treatment for you depending on the results you are looking to achieve. After speaking with the specialist and a facial analysis is performed, the actual procedure can take as little as 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The total time of the treatment can depend on the number of areas being treated in a single session.
