Deep Plane Face Lift in Orange County
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery that can address a variety of concerns associated with aging skin, including sagging jowls and loss of definition, hollow cheeks and a slack neck area. Different surgical techniques may be used to perform a facelift, depending on the overall condition of the skin, the age of the patient, and the area of focus.
SMAS technique, or the standard facelift. The most common approach is SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), in which the skin is separated from the underlying muscles, the muscle tissue is tightened, and the skin is redraped. To increase definition, fatty deposits below the chin may be removed via liposuction.
Deep-plane technique, a modification of the standard facelift. Unlike the standard facelift, the deep plane technique approaches the facial tissues in a distinct way, allowing the skin and underlying tissues (particularly the malar fat pad in the cheek area) to be repositioned as one continuous unit. To accomplish this, the surgeon will dissect more deeply into the facial tissue structure, maintaining the connectivity of the skin and deeper tissues. Incisions are made around the ear.
When performed with comprehensively, the deep plane technique can have some advantages:
● Better rejuvenation and tightening of the midface region
● Faster healing, reduced swelling and bruising
● Reduced chance of scarring and other complications
The deep plane technique is intricate and, due to the deeper dissection, there a slightly higher possibility of nerve damage. Only highly trained plastic surgeons perform deep plane facelifts.
